What is TumbleBook?

TumbleBook is an online library of real books from publishers like Simon & Schuster, Candlewick Press, Harcourt, and many more.  The creators have animated the actual illustrations to make listening more attractive.  The audio component is often read by the author to provide an authentic dictation of the story.

Users     TumbleBook is for your readers and nonreaders.  It can push your readers to expand vocabulary and be introduced to a variety of genres.  The program can also provide the repetition and individualized pacing that nonreaders need. The minimum reading range is from kindergarten through the eighth grade.

Comprehension Quizzes     Many of the TumbleBook stories have a five question comprehension quiz available. These multiple choice quizzes provide immediate feedback on how the child has comprehended the story.

Lesson Ideas   Tumblebook even provides lesson plans and worksheets to accompany some of the stories.  Each lesson has adaptations for varied learning levels.  This make differentiating in your classroom one step easier!

Leveled   Amazingly, Tumblebook has provided a reading level for automated reading and individualized reading.  Most books even have the Accelerated Reading level, quiz number, and points awarded for each book.  This will save you hours trying to plan which students are ready for what stories.

Older Learners   Tumblebook’s primary focus is on picture books, but has also added many audio only chapter books.  This streaming audio has classic stories such as Black Beauty and Anne of Green Gables.

English Language Learners     As stated before, Tumblebook is great for differentiated learning.  One special feature of Tumblebook is the different languages available for some books.  Tumblebook provides many books in Spanish and French.  This allows many English Language Learners to hear the story in their native language as well as English.
